Education

Education is at the core of a child's learning curve:
our organised activities vary from outings, singing and dance, to language, mathematics and problem solving.

The beginnings of responsible citizenship are also very much in evidence.  Both play and work are geared towards understanding and the consideration of others, as well as an awareness of different cultures and religions.

 

 


 

Birth to Three Matters

Birth to Three Matters identifies four key aspects, which celebrate the skills and competence of babies and young children. It also highlights the inter-relationship between growth, learning, development and the environment in which they are cared for and educated.

These four aspects are:

  • A Strong Child
  • A Skilful Communicator
  • A Competent Learner
  • A Healthy Child


 

The Foundation Stage

The Foundation Stage is the first part of the National Curriculum focusing on the distinct needs of children aged 3 to the end of the Reception Year in primary school.

The philosophy underpinning the Foundation Stage curriculum is that learning should be carefully planned and structured, with an emphasis on activities that are fun, relevant and motivating for each child. Practitioners delivering the Foundation Stage curriculum therefore support children's learning through planned play and extending and developing children?s? spontaneous play.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum (Early Learning Goals) is organised into the following six areas of learning:

  1. Personal, social and emotional development
  2. Creative development
  3. Physical development
  4. Mathematical development
  5. Communication, language and literacy
  6. Knowledge and understanding of the world

The early learning goals provide a basis for planning throughout the foundation stage, so laying down secure foundations for future learning. The goals are underpinned by the "Stepping Stones". The stepping stones identify developing knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes which children need if they are to achieve the early learning goals by the end of the Foundation Stage.
