Our Rooms

Baby Room

Our Baby Room is a self contained, very tranquil and soothing room where the babies have all their meals, sleep during the day and have their nappies changed. We keep lots of colourful toys and pictures around the room to stimulate them at various stages of their development, and the staff spend much of their time encouraging them to play and explore new sounds and textures.

They also go out into the garden at various times during the day, if the weather is suitable, and get taken for regular walks in buggies along the beach and into the park.

When the children come out of the Baby Room at 14 months, they join a group of toddlers aged up to 2. At this stage the children begin to move around the Nursery trying out different activities in different rooms.

Daisy Room

At the start of the day, children of all ages (if they are with us before 8.15am) have their breakfast in this room. We offer a selection of sugar free cereals, juice or milk and a daily selection of pancakes, croissant, waffles or toast. Later in the morning the room is used to encourage sharing and taking turns with the 2 year olds, as well as for colour, shape and counting activities, by the 3 and 4 year olds, and for cooking activities. The toddlers will have their morning and afternoon snack here and will be offered a variety of fruit and a drink. The toddlers and 2 year olds also eat their lunch and tea in this room.

After lunch, for a short time, the room houses the toddlers and 2 year olds who either do not have an afternoon sleep or who have woken early.

Buttercup Room

This is a large open room with lots of space to move around in. We use it for all age groups to develop large physical skills, participate in group activities and singing sessions.  It's also used for the children to improve their social skills through sharing floor puzzles, large building blocks and imaginative play. When the weather is not suitable for the children to go outdoors this room is used as a dry alternative for more energetic activities, such as music and movement, soft play.

After lunch each day, we put out low beds for the children who still need a rest during the day. The beds are only an inch or so off the ground so even the youngest child is safe as they tuck down with their own pillow and blanket to 'recharge their batteries' for the remainder of the nursery day. Once the nursery staff have settled all the children to sleep, one will remain in the room at all times until every child is awake again.

Bluebell Room

This area is used by all age groups to encourage the children to explore, investigate and experience a variety of tactile activities. Every child in the nursery will get a chance each day to spend time in this area so that they will become familiar with plenty of new and exciting activities which will build their confidence in a wide variety of situations. One end of the room is set up for the 'messier' activities, such as painting, cutting and gluing. The other end of the room is set up for floor and table activities, such as early numeracy and literacy skills, fine motor skills and 'reading' books.

The over 2's enjoy a free flow snack system during both morning and afternoon, where they choose when they are ready for a drink or some fruit. A member of staff will assist the children to cut pieces from whole fruits. The 3 and 4 year olds use this room for their lunch and tea. During these meals independence is encouraged as the children help themselves to meat, potatoes and vegetables from dishes on the table.

Garden Area

Our large and secure garden is divided into several areas for the children to explore including a digging area, a wellie boot display garden - all of which were planted by the children - two play houses, large climbing equipment, a very large sand pit and many wheelie toys, balls, bats, slides and push-along toys.

In addition, many activities from indoors will be brought into the garden for the children to extend their experience and imagination. Water play is a regular feature of outdoor play, as is blackboard chalking.

The children will be taken outside in all, but the very worst weather conditions. We encourage you to buy a splash suit and a pair of wellies for your child to keep them warm and dry, even when it is raining. To the other extreme, we ask for hats and 'jelly' shoes to be worn during hot, sunny weather.
