Woodstock Day Nursery

Woodstock employs 20 staff in total, including the Nursery Administrator and two part time Cooks.

Amongst the 17 nursery practitioners there is a wide range of experiences with some staff joining us straight from college and continuing their CPD (Continued Personal Development) with us, whilst others have years of experience working in other nurseries, being a Registered Childminder and bringing up their own families. The team includes male as well as female staff.

Some practitioners work with one age group, so organising the daily routines for the same children every day; whilst others will work in any age group according to need. This enables each child to get to know all the staff making transitions through the nursery very easy as the children are never with an unknown ‘stranger’.

Meet Our Excellent Team

Staff

Anne Shrieves

Owner / Manager, Early Years Teacher (EYT)

After a career in the NHS and having my own children, I opened my first Day Nursery in 1996 for 24 children. The business grew to 3 Day Nurseries, 3 Out of school clubs and a Pre-school until in 2006 everything was sold except for Woodstock Day Nursery and I am now able to enjoy working alongside the staff team and the children on a daily basis – semi retirement and loving it!

During this time I have qualified as a Nursery Nurse (0 to 5 years) and a Play Leader (5 to 14 years), have completed a BA in Early Years and am now a qualified Early Years Teacher (EYT).

On a personal note, I have 3 sons and two step-sons who are now all over 18 years of age plus 4 grandchildren . . . . so far.

We do not use agency staff to cover staff holidays or sickness – there is enough leeway within our staff team for part timers to extend their hours and we also employ some regular ‘bank’ staff. As we have at least two supernumerary staff each day there is always a spare practitioner to step in at short notice.

Our team is very well qualified including 4 Early Years Teachers. You will see qualification details alongside each team member as you read about our staff below. ALL our staff hold a Paediatric First Aid certificates and have attended Child Protection training.

We do accept students from the local colleges and schools for work experience. They will work alongside a member of the team and NEVER be left alone with the children.

We are very proud of the staff team at Woodstock and hope that you will spend a few moments reading about each person in the short synopsis below.

Shirley Norton

Nursery Administrator

I have worked with children in one capacity or another for most of my adult life, either as Tawny Owl / Shere Khan in local Brownie / Cub packs or being part of several local theatre groups. I also run my own successful Children’s Face Painting Business since 1997  - all alongside raising my own daughter!   I love my role as Nursery Administrator and I can honestly say that every day at nursery is fun, unique and full of laughter.

Sarah Shaw

Deputy Manager / SENCO, EYT

After qualifying as a nursery nurse in 1995 I have worked in two other nurseries before joining Woodstock in 2005.  I have always had a passion for Early Year which led me to study at Chichester University, firstly for a BA in Childhood Studies and qualifying as an Early Years Teacher in 2008.

I have also managed to have the time to have three beautiful children which helps me to empathise with sleepless nights and the other joys of motherhood!

Dina Bartley

Senior Practitioner, Kittens and Cubs, Level 3 in Early Years and Childcare

I have been in childcare since 1999 and have a Cache Level 3 Diploma in Pre School practice.  During my time in childcare I have worked with all age groups.  My experience with 2 year olds involved opening and managing a 2 year old unit, managing 3 staff on a weekly basis.

I have worked at Woodstock since 2010 working in all the different age groups.  I have been a Senior since 2013 which I find very rewarding.  I thoroughly enjoy my job at Woodstock and look forward to being involved in a very important time of the children’s life.

I am married with 2 daughters who are both in full time education.  My eldest is studying Pharmaceutical Science and my youngest is studying for her A levels.

I started working at Woodstock in July 2010 as Bank Staff and then in September 2011 began working at least one day a week as Cook as well and I really enjoy this diversity.   As this was quite a departure from my previous career as Office Manager for my Husband’s business I do not have any childcare qualifications but I do have a lot of experience with children.

Jess Erb

Level 3 in Early Years and Childcare

I started at Woodstock in September 2011 as a student from Northbrook College and was given the opportunity to start as an apprenticeship whilst studying for my Level 2.  I finished all my training in January 2015 and I am now Level 3 qualified in Childcare.

I work in all age groups across the nursery, which I enjoy as I get to learn and experience the different stages of development in Early Years.

I enjoy being creative and I am always thinking about what we can create today, the children have such wonderful imagination; we are never short of ideas!

It’s been a wonderful journey so far and I am looking forward to the rest of it at Woodstock.
